Treatment in Ayurveda

Ayurvedic treatment aims to remove the root cause and give permanent relief.

There are four main classifications of management of disease in Ayurveda

  • Shodhan, or cleansing
  • Shaman or palliation
  • Rasayana, or rejuvenation and
  • Satvajaya, or mental hygiene.

The treatment mainly comprises of various formulations prepared from natural herbs, plants and minerals. Because the medicines are from natural sources and not synthetic, they are accepted and assimilated in the body and many times offer other benefits.

Along with medicine, proper diet, exercise and living style is also advised. This is equally important. If we are taking a medicine to remove the root cause and at the same time we are taking some food or following a life style which is increasing the cause of disease, then we may not get well or will be getting less relief.

In addition to these, Panch Karma and Yoga therapy can be very safely used to promote good health, prevent diseases and acquire longevity.

Panchakarma is cleansing of the body according to Ayurveda. This is a set of five (pancha = five in sanskrit) procedures.

They are Vamana, Virechana, Basti(Nirooha and Anuvasana), Nasya and Raktamokshan.

Pre Panchakarma procedures are called as Poorvakarma. They are Snehanam (oleation) and Swedanam(sweating).

Snehana stands for lubrication of the body systems by the administration of fatty substances internally or externally. Internal (Snehpanam, Abhayntaram) and external (Bahya) oleation loosens the toxins accumulated in the body and moves it into the gastro intestinal tract. Oil massage also helps to make the tissues softer and helps to remove stress and nourishes the nervous system.

Sneha chikitsa in generally is recommended for the following:
